Some information about Tamil

Tamil  is an old style Dravidian language locally spoken by the Tamil nation of South Asia. Tamil is an authority language of the Indian province of Tamil Nadu, the sovereign countries of Sri Lanka and Singapore, and the Union Territory of Puducherry. Tamil is likewise spoken by huge minorities in the four other South Indian provinces of Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and the Union Territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The two earliest compositions from India, recognized and enrolled by the UNESCO Memory of the World register in 1997 and 2005, were written in Tamil.


In 1578, Portuguese Christian ministers distributed a Tamil petitioning heaven book in old Tamil content named Thambiran Vanakkam, hence making Tamil the principal Indian language to be printed and distributed. The Tamil Lexicon, distributed by the University of Madras, was perhaps the earliest word reference distributed in Indian dialects. As per a 2001 study, there were 1,863 papers distributed in Tamil, of which 353 were dailies
